Systems Administrator (Unix/Linux)

Summary:

BASIC PURPOSE:
Manage Unix/Linux based servers and applications.  Perform day-to-day administration and maintenance of local network and PBX.  Perform IT operations duties including daily backups, user account creations, network and file permission changes, troubleshooting, etc.

Location: Colorado (Boulder)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Manage system backups and rotation for the Boulder Data Center.
2. Manage multiple servers in a multi-OS environment both physical and virtual (VMWare).
3. Manage several applications based on a variety of operating systems.
4. Maintain and update server operating system and patch levels for all servers.
5. Administer user accounts on LDAP, Active Directory, MS-Exchange, AS/400 etc.
6. Perform server hardware upgrades and maintenance.
7. Maintain name and IP service databases (DNS, e-mail aliases, DHCP).
8. Coordinate the organization and maintenance of computer room equipment (UPS, Leibert, HP SAN etc).
9. Install and configure new server applications for testing and development.
10. Maintain server, network, and software configuration documentation.
11. Serve as second-line troubleshooter for common issues (authentication problems, connectivity problems, etc.)
12. Maintain test environment for pre-production application and OS testing.
13. PBX Administration.
14. Support senior staff by taking on projects as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. BS in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
2. Two to three years experience in systems administration.
3. Required for Linux/Unix Focus:
a. In depth knowledge of Red Hat Linux, Samba, LDAP, VMWare, Bind DNS, etc.
b. Working knowledge of Windows/MacOS X
c. Experience with cross-platform server networks.
d. Networking Fundamentals (VPN, SMB, TCP/IP, DNS, LDAP, DHCP, etc.).
e. Telecommunication and PBX fundamentals.
f. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
g. System Backup and Recovery.
h. Linux/Unix Scripting.
4. Preferred Skills:
a. Veritas Net Backup
b. Perl/Bash Scripting
c. Lucent and/or Shoreline Administration
d. Call center telecom support
e. IBM iSeries (AS/400) Administration
f. MS-SQL/mySQL/Oracle 10g Experience
g. Experience with Storage Area Networks
h. Project Management
i. Clustering
j. Network Load Balancing
5. Ability to meet attendance guidelines.
6. Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with all contacts both inside and outside the company.
7. Ability to meet physical requirements of the job, including occasional lifting up to 40-60 lbs., carrying 20-40 lbs., and pushing/pulling 60+ lbs.
