Regulatory Compliance Associate

Summary:

Provide technical leadership and within the Regulatory Compliance Department. Assist Director in day to day regulatory activities of the food and personal care businesses. Interface with other departments including global partners at all levels to provide regulatory guidance. Review labels, website content and advertising material to ensure conformance with all pertinent Federal, State and local laws and regulations as well as relevant certification requirements, including Kosher and Organic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Work closely with Marketing and R&D at the inception of new product development so that claims, value-added features, and other product benefits are assessed and manageable prior to product development.
•Track department deliverables against business needs, help allocate resources and project priorities, and establish best practices to improve turn-around time and quality of work and to strive for “right first time”.
•Support a growing food and personal care export business by working collaboratively with China joint venture partners as well as other export customers to provide regulatory information for labeling purposes,.
•Develop, maintain and enforce the Technical Services department’s SOPs.
•Generate regulatory information on package labels using database with ingredient specifications and formula composition.
•Prepare and review nutrition facts panel, ingredient statement, allergen identification, product, nutrient content, ingredient, and health claims in accordance with all labeling laws and regulations.
•Review labels for consumer safety issues (storage, preparation, use)
•Work with Kosher Certification Coordinator to ensure accuracy in usage in and compliance of kosher symbols.
•Work with Organic Certification Coordinator to ensure accuracy in organic labeling and proper use of certification.
•Recommend and substantiate product claims to maintain or achieve a competitive advantage in the market place.
•Work with Hain Celestial Canada regulatory department to ensure accuracy of labels for both US and the Canadian market
•Review other technical package information by working with QA to:
•Comply with Fair Packaging and Labeling Act by verifying net contents statement and slack fill requirements.
•Review company approved domiciles and signature lines
•Comply with SQF, where implemented.
•Review/approve artwork to ensure required technical label elements are included with proper placement and type size.
•Participate in meetings as needed to maintain current knowledge of company’s policies and procedures with respect to issues of GEI’s.
•Monitor external regulatory activity to ensure that the company is aware of and responds expeditiously to pertinent developments in labeling law, FDA, FTC and USDA actions and policy statements
•Maintain registrations required for corporate compliance with various state and federal agencies.
•Assist Consumer Response personnel with technical information in response to consumer inquiries.
Supervisory Responsibilities
•Provide guidance, direction, training to enhance the performance and satisfaction of the Regulatory Compliance staff.
•Provide input in hiring and evaluation of department employees.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
•Bachelor’s degree required.
•8 to 10 years previous quality line or staff experience in a technical function within the consumer product good sector, preferably in regulatory compliance.
•Strong knowledge of Food GMP’s, SOP’s, HACCP/Food Safety, Regulatory and Environmental guidelines.
•Previous analytical and ingredient testing experience.
•Export and personal care experience is a plus.
•Adept in problem solving.
•Exceptional communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
•Highly competent in organizational acumen and team-building.
